1. The colours mark the quarter
On construction and demolition sites, tags are colour-coded by the period in which the item was tested: red for December to February, green for March to May, blue for June to August, and yellow for September to November. Test and tag colours are essentially a calendar you can read from across a site.
2. It exists because site intervals are short
Construction equipment is tested frequently because the environment is harsh. Test and tag colours let a supervisor see at a glance whether a lead was tested this quarter without reading the fine print on every tag, which matters on a busy site with hundreds of items.
3. It applies to construction, not offices
