Why Upgrade — ACS Electrical
01
Inside a modern switchboard with circuit breakers and wiring
1 in 4
Perth homes still run pre-2000 boards
01 / Why upgrade

Built for last century's power demands.

Today's homes run inverter ACs, induction cooktops, EV chargers, solar systems and a small army of always-on electronics. The boards installed in the '70s, '80s and '90s weren't.

An undersized or ageing switchboard isn't just an inconvenience — it's the single biggest electrical fire risk in your property. ACS Electrical replaces, recertifies and future-proofs it in a single day, with full compliance documentation to back it.

Warning Signs — ACS Electrical
02 / Warning signs

If you've noticed any of these, book today.

Most are your board telling you it's at the end of its life — often months before something fails. Catch it now and an upgrade is a planned cost, not an emergency.
/ 01

Frequent
power trips

Circuit breakers tripping more than once a month usually means a board that's overloaded, ageing or undersized for current loads.

/ 02

Flickering lights

Lights that dim when the kettle, oven or AC kicks in point to bad load balancing or worn connections inside the board.

/ 03

Ceramic fuses

Pre-date modern safety standards. They don't protect against earth leakage.

/ 04

Burning smell or heat

A warm cover, a faint burning smell, or buzzing from the board are urgent. Don't open it — call an electrician the same day.

/ 05

Renovating

New circuits for an extension, kitchen, or granny flat almost always trigger the need for extra capacity and modern protection.

/ 06

Asbestos boards

Common in Perth homes built before 1985. Professional removal and safe replacement — not a DIY job, ever.

Benefits Section
03 / Benefits

Five jobs your old board can't do.

Trips faults in milliseconds

Modern RCDs detect earth leakage in 30ms — fast enough to stop a fatal shock. Old fuses simply can't compete.

Handles modern loads

Designed for inverter ACs, induction cooktops, hot water heat pumps and the always-on electronics in every modern home.

Compliant with AS/NZS 3000

Every upgrade meets the current Australian Wiring Rules, with full certification you can hand to insurers and conveyancers.

Solar, battery & EV ready

Pre-wired for future inverters and chargers — so when you add solar or a Tesla, it's a half-day job, not a redesign.

Clearly labelled circuits

No more guessing which switch controls the laundry. Every circuit individually labelled, mapped and handed over with documentation.

Compliance Section
04 / Compliance

Built to AS/NZS 3000 — the Aussie wiring rules.

Every switchboard we install conforms to the current edition of AS/NZS 3000 — the national standard for electrical installations in homes, businesses and industrial properties. Compliance isn't a tick-box for us; it's how we sleep at night.

You'll receive a full Certificate of Electrical Compliance, lodged with EnergySafety WA, plus our internal handover pack: circuit map, component list, warranty register and photographs of every termination.

Dane and I have worked together on a few projects, and he is by far the best electrician I’ve come across. He is highly knowledgeable, takes the time to guide you in the right direction, and never rushes his work. His attention to detail and strict adherence to safety procedures really set him apart. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable and skilled electrician.

After searching for a long time, some guys says a lot of problems they might see before even looking or inspecting. But Dane did the reverse and inspected what needs to be done and gave options on what we can do if its not possible. Fair pricing and easy to deal with. If you looking for some, look no further. Can’t recommend Dane enough.Thank you for installing our smart switches.
FAQ Section
Most standard residential upgrades on single-phase supply are completed in a single day — typically 4–6 hours of installation plus testing and certification. Larger homes, three-phase commercial sites, or asbestos-board replacements may run longer, but we always quote the time upfront and stick to it.
For most jobs, power is off for around 4–6 hours. We'll let you know exactly when we arrive so you can plan around it — most clients move the fridge contents to an esky, charge laptops the night before, and head out for the day. Commercial clients often get overnight or weekend upgrades to avoid trading downtime.
In most cases on older boards, yes. Modern solar inverters, battery systems and EV chargers all introduce additional load and require dedicated protection devices. If you're planning to add any of these in the next 1–2 years, it's almost always cheaper to upgrade once now with the spare capacity built in.
Compared to a modern board with RCD safety switches — yes. Ceramic fuses can't detect earth leakage (the type of fault that causes electric shocks) and don't trip fast enough on overload to prevent overheating. They were the standard 50 years ago; they're not the standard now.
For residential properties, every 5 years is a sensible cadence — or any time you notice flickering lights, frequent trips, or warm/discoloured cover plates. For commercial properties we recommend an annual thermal scan. We can build a periodic inspection into your maintenance schedule.
We stop, photograph it, and call you before doing anything else. You'll get a clear explanation of what we've found, what it would cost to remediate, and the options — including doing nothing if the risk is acceptable. Nothing is touched without your go-ahead.
Yes. Common in Perth homes built before about 1985. We follow WorkSafe WA-compliant removal procedures, dispose of the asbestos backing properly, and replace it with a modern board — all in one coordinated visit so you're not juggling multiple trades.
